Loews Coronado Bay Resort changes its decor, its food menus and maybe if the draperies and bedding often, but one thing you look for when you enter the breezy, island bay resort is the open space, simple elegance and casual comfort that never goes away.

Shown above is the centerpiece staircase that sweeps upward to meeting space from the hotel lobby. While there are certainly ADA (American Disabilities Act) elevator options, for those who can climb, this stairway feels like comfortable and familiar. It is sort of unique among San Diego Hotels and one of the main reasons tourists and travelers return. Not able to put your finger on why you feel so comfortable in four diamond accommodations that sometimes are a bit snooty, Loews makes you feel welcome at every point.

Looking from a lounge area with a beautiful bar and piano next to huge windows looking out to the San Diego Bay, you'd never know by look at this oversized stairway that there's so much surrounding it. At Loews, one picture doesn't tell the whole story. From luscious tropical gardens and fountains, to the beach, to the bay with boats sailing by, there's so much to take in and all of it is beautiful.

When we find that price or anything less, we usually make at least one trip per year to see our favorite San Diego hotel on Coronado Island. On site tennis, swimming pools, great restaurants and food, golf cart rides across the street to the beach and other bay view overlooking Silver Strand beach, and a few miles drive into Downtown San Diego or to Tijuana, just opens up the possibilities for a vacation getaway or weekend stay.
