| It's
beginning to look a lot like a Southern California
Christmas as the Knott's Berry Farm staff pull out
the garland and build a tree from scratch.
First you need
a wire frame, sturdy, tall and bright.
Next, attach
artificial greens, and make them match.
Southern
California, like every other location has its real
trees, its artificial trees, and holiday spirit
that's absolutely huge. Tourists have mixed reviews
of the Southern California Christmas experience. It
is often sunny and bright...and around 72 degrees
during the holiday season. Some say it doesn't
FEEL like Christmas. But most agree they came to
visit for a reason (weather.) At Knott's Berry
Farm, you could not pick a lovelier time to ride the
monster roller coasters, stagecoach, train or place
the kids on a kiddie-themed car or baby roller
coaster.
The weather is
delightful, the crowds are minimal (except for the
holiday weeks,) and there's something totally funky
about Christmas in Southern California. It can
be shorts and tees weather, sunglasses and sunblock,
and serene beaches. Get packing for your
holiday on tour in Buena Park, home to Knott's Berry
Farm, or Anaheim, home to Disneyland. They are only
a 15 minute drive apart, so you can "do them both"
on a two-day visit.
We have some
tips on how to survive the Southern California
Christmas beach experience.
!. Just
because it is winter, it doesn't mean you won't
burn. (Bring sunblock, friends.)
2. Expect to
see palms, and by all means, bring a swim suit\,
too.
3. Rent a
convertible in Newport Beach, where you can leave
the top down.
4. Santa may
be wearing a tropical shirt. Don't sweat. It is part
of the scene.
5. Bring
sandals.
6. Visit a
theme park on a week day, and at Knott's you may get
wet on a splash ride, so bring back-up clothes just
in case.
When the
holidays arrive at Knott's Berry Farm, staff has
just finished packing up the Halloween Scream gear.
Christmas decor is simple and not overdone. It
blends with the style of the Old West buildings. At
Knott's Berry Farm there is an annual ice skate show
with the fictional cartoon characters affiliated
with the Buena Park theme park. Snoopy, Lucy and the
cast of characters created by Charles Schultz take
to the ice and delight kids and adults during the
months of November and December. In addition to ice
skating shows, there are a variety of interactive
places to see and exhibits to enjoy during the
holidays at Knott's. And their top-rated meal is the
fried chicken dinner. Don't forget to experience
what made them famous--chicken and berry pies.
