Rancho Cordova, Calif.―It
was out of necessity that we first discovered Rancho Cordova. We hate to
admit that our beloved Sacramento sometimes is too popular. When you spend
over an hour searching for a hotel room on-line and you know that last
available properties are charging way too much, it's time to look elsewhere.
And there's the rub. Sacramento realizes it's losing business to its
neighbors.
But some
of the fastest growing place in the U.S. are outside Sacramento. We've tried
and thoroughly loved Roseville--we'll go back. But on this trip we were
heading for Placerville and discovered Rancho Cordova was close enough to
Sacramento that we could share dinner with our friends, then head out of
town not very far for an overnight stay that was affordable and nice, and
half the price of a Sacramento hotel of comparable value, had one been
available.
Rancho Cordova looks like
a scattering of hotels, businesses, shops, services and home tracts.
Established in 2003, this Sacramento County city sits near American River,
which runs near the northern border of town. The river is enjoyed for
rafting, kayaking and salmon fishing but also features a bike trail and
horse paths.
Other fun sports include
golf at Mather Golf Course, indoor Kart racing at RPM and the largest sports
complex in North America with BasketBall Town, Metro Soccer, Fencing,
Gold's Gym, Hudson Dive, Technique Gymnastics, and Granite Arch Rock
Climbing.
The area
is not only known for its unique history of gold, but also for the bottled
gold, wine! Just minutes from historic Gold Country and foothill Wine
Country, take time to explore the region's attractions only 30 minutes away.
Gold Country to the east and El Dorado and Amador County wineries and
vineyards are all perfect for day trips. Buy some delicious wines to take
home or save for gifts. There's no better form of shopping than sampling.
But if you're a serious
shopper, Sunrise Mall has over 120 shops and Nimbus Winery Shopping Mall
includes Specialty Stores, Garbeau’s Dinner Theatre, Old Spaghetti Factory.
