San Diego Old Town Trolley Tours is a
bright orange open window tour bus that allows visitors to see many great
destinations without having to ever rent a car or drive around the city of
around 1,300,000 people. If you find driving a bit intimidating, then you
are visiting one of the best cities in California for getting around. San
Diego region is served by trains, buses, trolleys, ferry boats, shuttles,
taxis, pedicabs and rental cars.
On three visits to San Diego we've
gotten around on public transportation and seen more attractions than if we
had driven a car, primarily because we did not have to worry about parking.
Amongst our trips we've taken Coaster, Cloud Nine Shuttle from the San Diego
Airport, the Coronado Bay Ferry, the public bus system, a pedicab and the
Old Town Trolley Tours.
A ticket on Old Town Trolley Tours
costs a bit more than public transportation but has its advantages for those
seeking a day filled with attraction highlights. For the price of admission
you get shuttled between Coronado Island beginning at Hotel del Coronado,
San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and Historic Old Town San Diego. The driver
discusses interesting facts and points out places during the ride to
familiarize you with the many sights and attractions you may want to visit.
You are allowed a round-trip ride to and from your starting point and the
only challenge of this tour is when you get off at an attraction, being able
to fit every highlight into a day.
At the San Diego Zoo, we got off and
went straight for the line to see the new baby panda. We also got the
bird's eye view from the skyfari. Having been there before, we decided to
head back another time. Balboa Park beckoned. Balboa Park with its
numerous world-class museums and flowers gardens can absorb a few days of
your time―but
not when riding Old Town Trolley. With a delicious lunch on a patio garden
overlooking a wedding rehearsal, it was off again. to round off the trolley
trip to Old Town. We had a dinner function to attend at 5 p.m. back on
Coronado Island so didn't have time to get off the tour bus at Old Town,
which is highly recommended for its unique architecture and history.
The day was awesome with never a worry
about driving. The cost of admission on the Old Town Trolley Tours may vary
but we paid approximately $30 (subject to change).
