Pictured above is an aerial
view of the Seal Beach, Long Beach shoreline. Starting from the right,
the first structure extending into the water is the Seal Beach Pier.
Follow the attached stretch of sand (Seal Beach) to the Seal Beach River
Jetty. There's a cute restaurant on the beach near the jetty, aptly called
River's End Cafe. They specialize in breakfast and lunch meals.
Near the center of the photo, the
two bars or lines extending into the ocean that run parallel are the jetties
from Alamitos Bay. Follow the water into the channel there and you'll locate
yourself at the the Alamitos Harbor and Landing, one of several harbors
to dock boats in Long Beach. The Seal Beach Yacht Club is located there,
along with several waterfront restaurants, yacht and fishing charters and
a Farmer's Market on Sundays.
The large mass surrounded by water
left of Alamitos Landing is the island of Naples. The beach frontage
facing the the Pacific Ocean on the left side of the jetties and across
the bay from Naples is Long Beach peninsula. A gentle bay there is popular
for learning to sail. You can rent kayaks, sailboats and take the Gondola
Getaway ride from that location. On the other side of Naples is a
long straight strip of water. Across that channel you'll find Marina Pacific,
Mother's Beach and Marine Stadium. 2nd Street bridge crosses over the channel
there and extends through Naples and Belmont Shore.
Further north toward the top center
section of the photo is a blue triangle, the famous Pyramid on California
State University Long Beach campus. And on the far left side of the photo
are light colored buildings and land areas which are the location of Long
Beach Airport and office park.
