One of Newport Beach's
most fun beaches is Newport Municipal Beach. It's also the favorite spot to stop
and take a photo.
Not only does this beach
destination include California Historical Registered Landmark No. 794,
McFadden's Wharf (now Newport Pier), one of Orange County's first commercial
wharfs for distribution of goods and produce from Orange, San Bernardino and
Riverside Counties in the late 1800's. At the base of the pier is a beach is the
Dory Fishing Fleet, founded in 1891.
Newport Municipal Beach at the Newport Pier is located at Oceanfront and 21st
Place near the Balboa / Newport Boulevard junction. Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.,
metered street parking is available. The pier is open till midnight and free
fishing is possible here. (The jetties next to the pier require fishing
permits.) The Facilities: Lifeguards, rest rooms, showers, picnic tables, and
fire pits.
From swimming to surfing,
sandcastle building to chasing birds, kids have a field day at the beaches here.
Family friendly, the beach is close to parking so you don't have to hike to your
car normally. On the Newport Pier is a restaurant, plus many bars, pubs and
casual dining opportunities surrounding the pier. A very elegant restaurant, 21
