Savory pâtés and mousses. Delectable chocolate fondue with fruit -- not to
mention stunning views from a private terrace overlooking the crystalline
calm of Lake Mission Viejo. These are just a few of the reasons why La Maison Gourmet’s weekly wine tasting events are swiftly making this new
specialty wine and cheese shop the toast of the town. Indeed, the
recommended advance booking period -- rapidly expanding from a few days to a
week to now 10-14 days -- suggests that more and more Orange County locals
and visitors are clamoring to get a taste of this unique cultural and
entertainment experience.
Presented by
French-Canadian owners Louise Côté, Marc Raymond and Ginette Bourdage, each
tasting event celebrates the fruit of the vine from a specific region of the
world, i.e., it may be California boutique wines, the next Italian,
French or Australian, etc. Accommodating up to 30 people on the
store’s picturesque patio, seated guests enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and
beautiful scenery while having access to the expertise of a visiting wine
connoisseur, personally invited to La Maison due to his or her cultivated
knowledge of the featured regions’ vintages. Throughout the evening, the
expert encourages patrons to sample 8 to 10 different wines, and rate them
according to their own preferences. At the same time, a tempting array of
cheeses, pâtés and mousses -- carefully hand-selected by the owners to
complement each wine -- is presented to enhance the tasting experience. A
refreshing chocolate fondue with fruit crowns the evening.
Bringing with them a passion for European-style food and culture, Côte,
Raymond and Bourdage opened La Maison Gourmet in the spring of 2003 when
they could not find the particular wines and other cheeses in the Mission
Viejo area that they had come to love in their native French Québec. Besides
its weekly wine tasting events, the shop showcases a selection of premium
wines, imported cheeses, specialty cold cuts, fine Belgian chocolates and
other food products from around the world. While many of these items are
hard to find, all competitively priced.
In addition, La Maison Gourmet offers a 24-hour special
order wine service, deli services, lunchtime sandwiches, catered cheese,
pâté and cold cut platters and customized gift baskets. They also welcome
small special event bookings (16 –30 people) for their lakeside patio venue
– available for private parties, corporate and organizational gatherings.
Plans call for a wine club to be instituted in the near future, with details
to be announced.
