Point Mugu State Park
is located in the Santa Monica Mountains, less than an hour's drive north
of Los Angeles. Five miles of Pacific shoreline with
rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and sand dunes provide some of the most gorgeous
scenery anywhere. While Highway 101 meanders along the coast in many locations,
you must leave it and drive West to Highway 1 in order to see Point Mugu.
The designated Watchable Wildlife Site is a
birder's delight.
What's there to do? The beach features swimming,
body surfing and surf fishing. Mediterranean
climate with warm days and cool evenings makes layered clothing your best
option. There are more
than 70 miles of hiking trails with rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons and grassy valleys dotted with sycamores
and oaks.
