Mountain
Road Beach Laguna Beach Beaches
Mountain Road Beach on the south side
of Surf & Sand Resort Hotel is adjacent to Cress Street Beach to the north
and Bluebird Beach to the south. This little beach oasis is tucked at the
bottom of Mountain Road. While Mountain Road heads up toward the hills
and mountains where many homes are located in Laguna Beach, it actually
ends at Cress Street, which likewise ends at Bluebird Canyon Drive.
Mountain
Road Beach offers a sweeping sandy cove and a quaint garden adorned with
rocks, benches and Peace
and Love symbols. The charming garden has been there for over five
years, according to several local residents we asked. Those who come to
the garden or sit atop the hill above the park and beach on a green city
bench, discuss politics, community issues, or just chat about the
weather.
The beach was one of the lesser
populated beaches on the day we visited.
Hazardous and rip conditions are always
present at this popular beach where visitors are undeterred by threats of
challenging wave conditions. The reefs to the north and the shore break can
cause (and have caused) head and neck injuries, the type of injuries that
can cause permanent paralysis in some instances. Extreme caution should be
used when entering and exiting the water.
Activities include body boarding,
bodysurfing, fishing, and scuba diving. The two rips are in the Cress Street
area and the second major rip current is south towards Bluebird Beach. There
are many submerged rocks in the area.
