Mother's Bar in Sunset
Beach California—Some
call it biker bar because its not uncommon to see dozens of expensive
Harley motorcycles parked in front of the bright red building on Pacific
Coast Highway near the beach on weekends. On your first visit to
Mother's you might be invited to take your bra, underwear or a sock and
donate it to the ceiling decor where hundreds of such donations have
been made. The friendly neighborhood hangout welcomes all who come in
for a beer and friendly conversation. Leave your attitude at home
because you will be ignored if you bring it into Mother's. The cozy bar
with TV, a fan and even bands some weekends is casual, affordable and a
culturally interesting departure from trendy The OC.

Located in an
historic building that one employee said used to be the ticket station
for the Pacific Electric train line that once came from Los Angeles to
Orange County beaches, there's a window in the back that indeed, looks
like it could have at one time been a ticket window.
Artist Bill Anderson
of Anderson Gallery in Sunset Beach has documented the local scene in
watercolors as he's done for many years. Recognized as one of the
leading watercolor artists, Anderson has a list of credits nearly as
long as Sunset Beach itself (one mile). His work has been shown in
museums around the globe and he taught art for several decades in public
schools and universities.
Anderson's clients
travel from around the world to Sunset Beach to acquire original works
from his collections of famous watercolorists. Actress Carmen Diaz
is among those who have visited the shop and purchased works.
