This 18-hole public course with its picturesque layout
is located in Morro Bay State Park is one of the busiest courses in the
state. Ocean views from almost every hole, slightly hilly play with
tree-lined fairways and long, undulating greens make this setting remind
you of Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
The number one golf
course on the Central Coast for ocean views and
challenging holes, on a clear day, the tree lined
fairways and ocean views frame the sand dunes below.
Situated inside Morro Bay State Park and Estuary, the
course is located along Highway 1 just 12 miles north of
San Luis Obispo. This beautiful facility offers hilly
terrain, built on a hillside overlooking Morro Bay. It
has tree-lined fairways and greens that are hard to
read. All putts break an additional two inches towards
the water no matter how they are sloped. Robert Muir
Graves redesigned the course in 1987. This is a very
busy course, so call early for a tee time.
Notice the many species of birds that call Morro Bay
home, where Audubon International has bestowed "Audubon
Cooperative Sanctuary" status on the course. But don’t
get into a putting contest with the locals, lest you
become their favorite type of bird, the pigeon.
To speed up play, there are only four traps and few bunkers,
with most of them removed in the 1960s. The course record
is 64. Location: Heading north from San Luis Obispo, take Highway
101 and exit on Highway 1 to Morro Bay. Follow the Morro Bay State Park
signs to the course. Men's Blue Rating: Par: 70.4 Yardage: 6360
