Marshall is located in
Marin County in northern
California, approximately 5 miles from Bodega Bay. It was named for the
Marshall brothers, 19th century settlers who brought dairy cattle to the
region. It's not clear that Alexander, David, Hugh, James and Samuel
Marshall started the dairy industry here but they left their mark,
nevertheless. The dairy industry and cattle are noticeable on the farms and
open land Sonoma County is known for.
Major destinations not far from
Marshall include the San
Francisco Bay area and Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino wine country. As you drive
past this bend in the road and notice the beautiful Tomales Bay and hills,
you also may see oysters and clams sold at roadside companies. If you love
the soft-shelled food, stop in Marshall to enjoy local barbecue prepared
dishes. Tomales Bay is where nearly half of California's oysters are raised.
