This small town also averages about 30 feet of snow a year which is perfect for skiing and snowing, Mammoth Lakes is home to one of the country's largest resorts. Mammoth Lakes sits at an altitude of 7,800 - 8,000 feet. The surrounding mountains rise to elevations exceeding 12,000 feet. The summer and fall would be the best time of year to visit.
