A Hollywood musical arranger, Lou La Bonte, fell in love with the
foothill area during numerous trips to Lake Tahoe. In 1946, he packed
his bags and moved his family to the foothills, opening his first
restaurant in Weimar.
A Skyroom for private parties and Lou's
knack at entertaining and love of good food made his first restaurant in
a four-story building an instant success. When Interstate 80 expanded in
1955, Lou moved his restaurant to its present location. Since his death
in 1973, the business has been owned and operated by Lou's daughter,
Judi La Bonte.
Over the years the menu has changed.
The most popular items were fried chicken in a basket, New York Steaks,
25 cent hamburgers and Mrs. La Bonte's homemade apple pie back in the
early days. Today the restaurant serves American with an Italian and
French flair. Potato Crusted Salmon, Pan Seared Scallops, Pasta, Pizza
and too many items to mention are served with vegetables and Italian
Focaccia bread. A children's menu is available, too.
Yummy breakfasts, delicious luncheon
soups, salads and sandwiches and heavenly desserts that include Warmed
Apple Tart with Cinnamon Ice Cream, Warmed Soft Center Chocolate Cake
with Almond Ice Cream and Crème Brulee.
