Event Date: August 18, 2007
Location: Los Olivos, California in Santa
Barbara County near Solvang (note: the information below was derived from
the previous Quick Draw event and is subject to change.)
LOS OLIVOS - Annual Quick Draw Art
Auction and Show takes place outdoors in the park in Los Olivos. Sponsored
by the Los Olivos Gallery Organization (LOGO) it features a full day of art
events, barbecue, and entertainment. 20 well-known artists race against the
clock to complete works of fine art. Then they watch as their paintings are
auctioned off. At 10:30 am Master of Ceremonies Jim Farnum will introduce
each of the artists. Promptly at 11 am they start from scratch to create a
painting or drawing. Using a model, photo, or just their imagination as a
guide, the artists have exactly 45 minutes to work while bystanders watch.
When time is up, they have 15 minutes to frame their paintings. At 12 noon
the excitement and tension of a live auction begin. Al Wagner, an
experienced and popular auctioneer, wields the gavel as spectators bid on
beautiful art in various media. Proceeds are shared equally between artists
and LOGO. Artists participating in this year’s Quick Draw are Vicki
Andersen, Minnie Anderson, Lorna Dillon, Kelly Donovan, Lynelle Echeverria,
Dirk Foslien, Mark Greenaway, Gary Gresham, Cinthia Joyce, Gordon Luce, Joe
Mancuso, Joe Milazzo, Vel Miller, Richard Myer, Fayrene Parrish, Vic Riesau,
Grace Schlesier, and Carol Theroux. All have regional and national
reputations and come from all over California, one from as far away as Utah.
All exhibit in Los Olivos galleries.
Other Quick Draw events include a silent auction in the park that starts at
10 am. Local galleries and businesses donate art works and decorative
pieces. Lovely things can be purchased, often at bargain prices. From 11:30
am to 2 pm there’s a delicious barbecue in the park. Throughout the day Mike
Lopez and his band provides music.
After both the live auction and silent auction close, Los Olivos galleries
hold open houses and receptions from 2 to 5 pm. “Artists in Action” feature
demonstrations by artists. At Gallery Los Olivos various artists will
demonstrate in several medias. At Sansone Studies, Joel Sansone will show
the application of enamel (glass) sifted onto copper and the finished result
after firing. The Judith Hale Sculpture Garden is the site of sculpture,
lost wax demonstration, and applied patinas, and ceramic creations, artists
are Peter Barbisan, Laurie Brecheen Ballard, Lou Mariani, Vern McWilliams,
Dee Prater, and Bill Shinn.
Participating LOGO galleries are Art@Grand Tales, Details, Gallery Los
Olivos, Judith Hale Gallery, Judith Hale Gallery South, Mission Creek
Studio, Sansone Studios, Tatiana Marie Gallery, Wildling Art Museum, and
Young’s Gallery.
