Long Beach Sand Volleyball
Nets & Courts - You'd never know by looking at these placid, intimate beaches in
Long Beach, California that they've seen some world class action in their time.
But once you know that Misty May Treanor, one of the world's top female
volleyball players has lived in Long Beach and graduated from Long Beach State
University where she helped win countless volleyball games for the women's
volleyball team, you recognize the significance of volleyball nets at Long Beach
beaches. All up and down the coast, and especially in Southern California,
California
beach volleyball is a hot sport that rakes in a lot of dough for the top
players. But for the average folks, it's a fantastic game meant to be enjoyed
under the sun and on the sand in Long Beach and elsewhere.
Belmont Shore beaches that
are part of Long Beach include
permanent volleyball nets (seen in photo above). Overlooking the Pacific Ocean
south of downtown Long Beach near the Belmont Pier, these Belmont Shore sand
courts are ready for play and though they take a beating, they're loving it! Do
you want to know how to get to the Long Beach sand volleyball courts? E. Ocean
Blvd. at Prospect is the spot. Just look toward the Pacific Ocean and sand
beaches and watch for people jumping up and down, plus white balls flying
through the air.
On any given day you may see
volleyball players of all skill levels getting sunshine, fun time and exercise
in a setting right out of a storybook. Next to the volleyball nets is a
paved bike path that's a steady source of activity. Bicyclist, roller
bladers, skateboarders, joggers and walkers are on the path day and night,
beating the pavement to get some exercise next to the ocean.
You'll find the volleyball
courts on East Ocean Boulevard a few blocks away from busy 2nd Street in Belmont
Shore. There's some street parking and beach parking lots with metered parking
(costs about $0.25/15 minutes.) While playing volleyball, stroll on over to the
Belmont Pier to watch people fishing.
