We asked people working in the travel industry
in San Diego to choose a hotel they considered the nicest. The same answer
kept coming back, Loews Coronado Bay Resort was the top choice. From the
stunning bay and bridge views, to the elegantly, casual California decor,
from the use of feng shui for proper energy flow to the lively, little
finches that reside in their own house along a corridor, Loews Coronado Bay
Resort feels comfortable but special.
The Loews Resort
is gated property with ocean and bay views everywhere you look. San Diego
city lights glimmer at night and are enhanced by fine dining in the Azzura
Point, the resort's 2nd story view restaurant which features an intimate
atmosphere and gourmet faire. Locals living next door to the resort
along the waterfront Coronado Cays, consider a meal at this restaurant
a special treat.
Though
you can see San Diego from most hotel rooms and suites, Loews is an escape.
Never mind the sailboats and gondolas gliding past or the buses that circle
by the front door of the resort, providing rides to downtown Coronado, San
Diego and the ferry landing. If you don't care to drive, you can easily see
the many sights of San Diego via public transportation and charters that are
available. An underpass to Silver Strand beach is located at the hotel
though you can sit by pools, go sailing, play tennis or send the kids to the
electronic game room and never leave Loews.
There's Market
Cafe restaurant with bay views and a chef who prepares breakfast, fresh
salads, soups, sandwiches and a dinner menu. Dining with a group of 8 people
over a three day period, nothing but praise was ever heard about the
quality. You can peak into the kitchen and be impressed by its cleanliness
as you walk to your dining table. An espresso bar with a variety of coffee
drinks and alcoholic beverages is available, plus a more elegant bar that
opens at night for entertainment.
During our stay,
rooms were tastefully decorated with beds that included white comforters
covered with fine, cotton duvets. Evening roll back with chocolate "kisses"
placed on a night table beside the bed provided the goodnight kiss.
Bathrooms featured separate shower and deep baths that many of the women in
our group enjoyed. Rooms were quiet, well insulated and weather was
perfect San Diego bliss. On the list of places we're willing to pay a bit
more for, this is a property we've been to twice and have already booked
again.
