Little Harbor Beach on Catalina Island, CA

Little Harbor Beach is located on the west side of Santa Catalina Island and was voted "one of the best campgrounds in the west" by Sunset Magazine; campers are submerged in pristine coastal wilderness and will enjoy the peace of mind it brings by participating in one of many available activities.

The remoteness and ruggedness of the campground is counterbalanced by some modern comforts such as running showers, chemical toilets, and freshwater; so at the end of the day one can wash off the marvelous white sand with a nice shower. There are 23 available campsites, eight of which are group areas- picnic benches and barbeque pits so guests can eat with comfort and ease. Activities include but are not limited to snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, or just relaxing on the beach. Kayaks and snorkeling gear are available from Wet Spot Rentals everyday through July and August or can be ordered in advance by calling 310-510-2229.

Rates vary depending on the season and day of the week, but prices are still rather inexpensive. During the winter/spring/fall seasons it is $14 per day for adults and $7 per day for children on the weekends; mid-week winter prices are $12 per day for adults and $6 per day for children. During the summer season (peak season) prices are $16 per day for adults and $8 per day for children on the weekends, and $14 per day for adults and $7 per day for children during the week. Group rates are also available for parties of 20 people or more and can be reserved by calling 310-510-2800 ext.1414. Little Harbor also has camping gear available for rent, offering everything from tents to fire starters to stoves and propane- and all for relatively cheap. Tents are $16, sleeping bags are $12, wood is available for $8 per bundle, propane and stoves vary depending on the duration of use and amount needed. Camping equipment is available from Two Harbors Visitor services, they can be reached at: 310-510-8368

To get to Little Harbor from either Avalon or Two Harbors, campers have two options: take the Catalina Safari bus or hike to the beach via the Trans-Catalina trail (It is recommended to make reservations on the Safari bus because it can fill up very fast). Overall, this Pacific island escape offers the perfect balance of comfort without taking away from any of the natural beauty Catalina Island has to offer.
