Lake Forest is a young city situated in the Saddleback Valley adjacent to the 1,500 acre
Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park
and beautiful Saddleback Mountains descriptively named for their appearance.
Also serving as the gateway to Cleveland National Forest, this fairly
new city was incorporated on December 20, 1991.
Remnants and relics of its
historic past are visible in nearby Rancho Las Lomas (shown in photo above)
which in privately owned and used for weddings, corporate events and tours.
Another treasure is Cook's Corner, a favorite hang out for touring groups
that arrive decked out in their finest leather outfits and expensive Harley
motorcycles. While the new urban cowboys saddle up their bikes for
trips to a bar once serving as military barracks during World War II,
earlier generations rode horses and farmed the fertile Saddleback Valley.
Lake Forest is located in the heart of South Orange County, California in east
of Interstate 5 and 405 Freeways near the Foothill and Eastern Transportation Corridors, which provide easy access to Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Inland Empire.
Public parks offer everything from tennis, handball, basketball and volleyball courts, tot lots, a golf course, stable, hiking, biking, and equestrian trails cozy picnic areas and barbecues, to boating and swimming. There are free summer concerts in the park, theaters, community playhouse productions as well as special events at Heritage Hill, Historical Park.
For the traveler, Lake Forest is an ideal
location for overnight hotel stays for day trips to San Diego Zoo, Wild
Animal Park, Old Town, Seaworld and Tijuana, and trips to Los
Angeles, Universal Studios, Hollywood and Disneyland. There is an
abundance of good restaurants and lots of shopping and local movie theaters,
golf clubs, skate parks and more.
