Lake Tahoe
is the largest alpine lake in North America. It measures 12
miles wide X 22 miles long X 1,645 feet maximum depth. Its shoreline
is 72 mile long.

South Lake Tahoe:
South Lake Tahoe is an
ideal travel destination not only for those who seek a
California lake vacation, but also for vacation getaways
that involve the outdoors. From camping, fishing, and
golfing, to horseback riding, to snow and water sports,
South Lake Tahoe offers amazing adventures, beautiful

Located on the California state border near Nevada
approximately 188 miles north-east of San Francisco, South
Lake Tahoe is home to over 24,000 residents. You can get to
South Lake Tahoe by flying into the
Reno or Sacramento airports, with
charter buses
going hourly to South Lake
Tahoe major hotels from Reno Airport. If you’d prefer to
drive, South Lake Tahoe is approximately a 3 ˝ hour drive
from San Francisco.
South Lake Tahoe is located on Lake Tahoe which is 12 miles
wide, 22 miles long and features 72 miles of shoreline.
Cities surrounding the lake include South Lake Tahoe and
Tahoe City on opposite ends.
Near the Northern section of the lake and Tahoe City are
cities named Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay, Kings Beach,
Sunnyside, Homewood and Tahoma. This northwestern side of
Lake Tahoe offers skiing at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadow.
Not far from Tahoe City is the Donner Memorial State Park
and Donner Lake.
The southeastern side of the lake that borders Nevada and a
city called Stateline, Nevada, includes popular South Lake
Tahoe. Skiing and gambling casinos (on the Nevada side of
the street) make South Lake Tahoe a popular resort
destination for event planning, weddings, meetings, social
functions and outdoor enthusiasts. South Lake Tahoe's ski
resort is Heavenly. Dinner cruise boats on this side of the
lake include the Tahoe Queen.
Visitors can enjoy South Lake Tahoe for the outdoor
experience, as well as shopping at some of the many great
gift shops. Families can go bicycling, or kids can enjoy the
Caesars Tahoe Arcade while parents golf at the Edgewood Golf
Course or go fishing with Backwater Charters. Visit the
Aspen Lounge to test your luck at the casino, or take the
family out to eat at the American River Café for a real
treat.
If you enjoy skiing, you’ll love the winter months at South
Lake Tahoe. Californians living at the beach can escape the
winter doldrums and overcast days on weekend getaways.
Mesmerizing snowfalls cover the pine trees in a blanket of
white between late November and early April, providing some
incredible skiing or snowboard at Sierra-at-Tahoe ski lift.
With an average winter snowfall of about 20 feet and
temperatures averaging 38 degrees, South Lake Tahoe offers
fantastic powder conditions ideal for beginners to expert
skiers and snowboarders.
In the summer months of July through August, temperatures
average about 80 degrees and the evenings aren’t very cold
at all. The spring and fall temperatures average about 56
degrees. Be sure to pack a sweater or jacket along with some
lightweight clothing and you'll be set. Dressing in layers
is usually recommended. Lake Tahoe beaches you can enjoy
during the summer include: Baldwin Beach, Camp Richardson
Resort & Marina, Connolley Beach, El Dorado Beach, Emerald
Bay Beach, Kiva Beach, Nevada Beach, Pope Beach, Regan
Beach, Round Hill Pines Beach & Marina, Ski Run Beach,
Tallac Picnic Area and Zephyr Cove Beach.
South Lake Tahoe also offers annual events all year round,
including the Hwy 50 Wagon Train in June, Star Spangled
Fourth – Lights on the Lake on the 4th of July, the Lake
Tahoe Marathon in October and much much more.
