Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean Band
Huntington Beach, Calif.--Ask
resident Dean Torrence (Jan & Dean)
where he left his heart. Torrence
travels the globe performing for
events, special concerts and
corporate gatherings. But he always
returns to his home in Southern
California.
Jan & Dean, a classic band from the
1960's, provided the youth of that
era with a new type of music that
chimed along with the sounds of the
Beach Boys. In fact, Jan & Dean were
friends of the Beach Boys and
sometimes performed together or
collaborated on songs. If you have
heard songs about surfing,
skateboarding and two girls for
every boy, you may recognize the
person shown above, Dean Torrence,
of the California surf band, Jan &
Dean. Dean Torrence travels
the globe, performing for audiences
who seek the rocking music they
recall. Kids learn it from their
folks and sometimes join in
generational bonds through musical
sounds.
But many do not realize that Dean
Torrence has worked as a
professional artist for many years,
both at agencies and as a private
creator. His art includes
great detail and themes that reflect
California. Torrence sometimes holds
art exhibits and signs his artwork
that's sold
to the public. He has a web site
where you can find the band's CD's.
tours and history, www.jananddean.com. Jan Berry passed
away not long ago but lives in the
hearts of all who heard his
California surfing music.
As you can see from the work above,
Dean's themes include California,
cars, surfboards and Surf City.
You'll be hard pressed to find a
nicer guy than this dapper gent who
has a sense of humor and most always
wears a smile. His art work usually
contains great detail with applied
airbrush techniques that soften many
of the elements. Torrence's framed
art is popular and is ideal for
anyone seeking more than just a
song, a signed CD or souvenir sold
at one of the musician's concerts.
The art is a result of years of
training. After the Beach Boys
and Jan & Dean fell off the charts, Torrence, who had designed many
album covers for other bands, made a
healthy living using his talents as
a professional artist. He continues
to be involved in special art
projects while touring with his Surf
City Allstars beach and party band.
Many folks misspell the name, Dean
Torrence. Why? There's a city not
far from Dean's home called
Torrance, California. It is spelled
differently. Confusing? It can
be. Dean gets the "E" for excellent
and Torrance, the city, gets the "A"
for top grade. Both are winners!
Dean Torrence art is
represented at The Gallery
in Huntington Beach.
