Laguna Beach, Calif.--Irvine Cove Beach is only accessible
via the private community of Irvine Cove. The two parts of the beach are
separated by a rocky point that has a tunnel for passing through during very
low tides. The majority of the people who visit this beach enjoy the larger,
southern section of the cove. Shown in the photo above is the nearby
southern beach bordering Irvine Cove. While California state coastal
regulations allow for access to all beaches at the waterline, sometimes the
locals try to discourage visitors from using the beach. If you have concerns
about access at Irvine Cove, you will need to park at the public parking
locations nearby such as North Crescent Bay, then wander on foot along the
waterline to explore Irvine Cove beaches. With over five miles of public
beaches to explore in Laguna Beach, there's plenty of beach to enjoy from
this northernmost beach point, to the southern end of the city next to the
Montage Resort and South Laguna.
Note: This cove is governed by the Irvine Cove Homeowners Association, and
some beach policies and ordinances may differ from the City.
Popular activities include all water sports, surfing, body surfing, skin and
scuba diving, spear fishing, rock fishing, and skim boarding.
Major rip currents can develop. Surfing is done mainly at the southern end
of the cove with most swimmers staying towards the middle to enjoy the
water.
Irvine Cove, though it shares a portion of the
same name with the city of Irvine, is part of Laguna Beach.
