Huntington Beach, Calif.--A menu that's over 16 pages long
features an extensive bar, 24 or so
entrees of sushi and sashimi, and
traditional Japanese favorites with
teriyaki and tempura, and some
surprises.
There
must be a shortage of decent Japanese
and authentic Asian restaurants in
Orange County. When Kabuki first opened
and even today, a huge Japanese audience
frequented and continues to dine at a
restaurant where lunch begins around $9
and dinner is anywhere from $12 up.
Similarly, when Gyu Kaku opened in
Huntington Beach, it was standing room
only crowds for meals that can cost
around $50 -100 per couple. And after
several years in operation, that
restaurant still has crowds on weekend
evenings.
Kabuki has been around for not quite two
decades. It has expanded during its
existence to include chains in three
states. In California, there are 10
locations as of this post.
Kabuki is designed to be comfortable,
and stylish all in one. Contemporary
music with a great sound system, dark,
cool lighting, table seating, a sushi
bar where the chefs prepare the fresh
cuts of fish, and an extensive bar for
cocktail drinks all offer an atmosphere
where you can sit and relax. If you want
to step in and blend, that's easy
enough.
As
for the servings, the sushi comes in
generous portions, and those who have
eaten it really love it. In Huntington
Beach Kabuki opened in the Bella Terra
mall. It is next to the Century 20 movie
theater, Johnny Rockets, and Pasta
