Huntington Beach, Calif.--The economic tough times had just set
in when I and a friend dined at Chili's
in Huntington Beach. We'd been there
years previous when they advertised
specials to bring people into the new
restaurant at Charter Center. It was
really good when I tried it, and it was
good years later when I went back again.
Though not busy on a Tuesday night in
September (everyone was probably
downtown at the Surf City Nights), a
family with noisy children made up for
the quiet evening. Our only regret was
that the person who sat us and the
family didn't give the family a
bigger booth with plenty of space (there
was a nearly empty room), instead right
next to us. They probably wanted to make
their food serving tasks easier. Top

I
wasn't thinking "diet" and seldom am
when out picking menu favorites. Sure,
you may see some broccoli and lettuce in
the food plates above, and sure the left
plate that's a barbequed chicken salad
is the better choice. But, the right
plate with grilled chicken breast
smothered in two kinds of melted
cheeses, salsa, bacon strips, and
grilled onions is the tastiest thing
going. Just be sure to chomp on the
veggies as well, and you won't feel
quite so overfed by the time you pay the
bill.
Chili's is a chain restaurant, as you
probably know. It is recognized by a red
chili logo. It is part of Brinker
International, which also owns
Maggiano's Little Italian Grill,
Macaroni Grill and On the Border
restaurants. Chili's began in Dallas in
the mid-1970's, and grew into a popular
nationwide chain that is listed on the
stock exchange.
