There are many holiday
Christmas parades in California but one of the longest running events with
the most event dates is Huntington Beach Cruise of Lights, a boat tour the
public can take aboard yachts. Cruise of Lights in Huntington Harbour is
back for its 44th year, supporting the Philharmonic Society's programs for youth
musical education. It is one of the most worthy causes, and a fantastic way to
celebrate the holidays with a gift of giving. Just by buying tickets and
attending you are supporting the school programs as proceeds are given to the
schools in the form of checks at an annual check presentation. Once you take the
cruise, you'll be hooked. We've ridden on and off for 10 years and absolutely
love it. Huntington Harbour waterways and channels of five manmade island
with multi-million dollar mansions and estates are lit to a theme that changes
each year. In 2007 it is a surfing theme, and should be especially fun.
Operated by a volunteer committee and
organization, the event planners work tirelessly all year to organize the event,
write scripts for the boat tour, judge an annual home decorating contest, sell
tickets, find boats and yachts for the event, and then collect and distribute
the money to the teachers and schools for the benefit of the children. Bringing
music into the life of a child is one of the best gifts you can offer them. The
public schools barely fund music programs and are especially lacking in such
programs for the lower grade classes. The money Huntington Harbor Philharmonic
raises from Cruise of Lights helps fill the gap by providing funding for special
learning and field trips that expose youth to music. If you can't attend the
boat tour, the organization gladly accepts donations on behalf of yourself and
loved ones.
Cruise is not cancelled because of rain- Parking instructions mailed with
tickets. www.cruiseoflights.org

is but one of many cities throughout California that enjoy
an annual event to help you get in the holiday mood.
You can cruise the waterways of Huntington Harbour
in December. If you book the Cruise of Lights Tour,
you leave the driving to someone else. The money

for public school children.

You
may also reserve you own Duffy Boat available in Sunset
Beach for hour and two hour rentals but be advised,
experience is necessary on the busy cruise nights. The
electric vehicle travels no more than 5 miles per hour in
the harbor and is like driving a golf cart.

If the cruise is sold
out, you may consider a romantic gondola ride as well.
Sunset Gondola at Peter's Landing sells out for this event
as they have limited staff. You'll most always find a ticket
available on the official Cruise of Lights boat tour. Give
them a call.
The closest lodgings
to this event are the Ramada Ocean Front hotel rooms at the
Beach in Sunset Beach.
