We've taken out friends on birthday rides, enjoyed the moonlit cruise around the smaller canals that hug  Sunset Island in Sunset Beach and look forward to the December Cruise of Lights tour with our family in a private boat. What's this all about? Two men (Southern California guys) have immersed themselves in the Italian gondola culture. They've been gondoliers for nearly 20 years (combined) and pride themselves as being the few invited U.S. gondoliers to participate in Italy's great gondola competitions.  Combining incredible skills and strength with Tim Reinard's U.S. Coast Guard certification, you'll not find more expert captains of your intimate, private vessel anywhere. 

While they encourage visitors who seek a ride on a big yacht to sign up for the Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights, an annual fundraiser that goes on limited schedule around the harbor for night-time lights cruises, they invite those seeking a customized, intimate experience to try Sunset Gondolas service.

The sparkling holiday lights herald the beginning of a special boat ride called Cruise of Lights. The annual event begins with a lighted boat parade that goes one weekend in December. Following it there are two weeks of public boat rides (for a fee) to raise money for music programs in schools.  Huntington Harbour, including Humboldt Island pictured above, decorates to a musical theme chosen each year celebrate this unique event.
