Huntington Beach, California seen
in the photograph above includes an electric generating
station (far left), with water and waste processing plants
seen as the tanks behind it. In the middle of the
picture is the Huntington Beach Pier extending into the
ocean. It includes the red-topped structure, a restaurant
called Ruby's Diner. A tall tan building at the half-way
point of the pier is the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort
(formerly called Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort). There are
two oil platforms seen to the right and two tanker ships
heading for the Port of Long Beach or Port of Los Angeles
nearby.
Huntington Beach is
located in Orange County, California. It is 15 miles from
Disneyland, borders with Newport Beach, is 35 miles from Los
Angeles International Airport and Los Angeles, and features
the longest single stretch of beach of any city in Orange
County.
The city of
approximate 200,000 includes a quaint Main Street, outdoor
dining, shopping for youthful clothing, and close proximity
to many attractions and events. Located on the flight paths
of John Wayne - Orange County Airport, Long Beach Airport
and LAX, the skies over Huntington Beach team with airline
flights. Noise abatement programs prohibit jets from landing
or taking off after a certain time of night until early
morning.
The photo taken from
this location was obtained on a jet flying from Northern
California to John Wayne Airport. The most common flight
path stays inland or next to the Pacific Ocean along the
coast. Around Ventura, flights often head 20 to 30 miles
over the ocean, flying above Catalina Island, where they
turn toward land. After flying between Huntington Beach and
Newport Beach, the flights typically go over Anaheim and
Disneyland, turning toward the Tustin Hills and 5 Freeway,
then veering back toward the ocean again where John Wayne
Airport is a few miles short of the Pacific Ocean.
Landings and take-offs are interesting on clear days.
