Westminster, California Travel Guide


Westminster, once named for British influence, now is the largest Vietnamese community outside Vietnam. Little Saigon in Westminster is a world unto itself, and a destination for Asians seeking hard-to-find produce, spices, meats, fish and frogs and other foods not traditionally available throughout Southern or Northern California chain stores. Northern Californians from Sacramento area actually drive over 500 miles to shop at this authentic Asian village next to Westminster's Korea Town.

Westminster Mall has been a reliable neighbor drawing shoppers from the surrounding region for over 30 years. It is a large indoor shopping mall spanning a city block. It includes anchor stores such as Macy's, Sears and JC penney's, and outside the mall you'll find Best Buy and Kids R Us. With several major freeways passing through Westminster (San Diego Freeway and Garden Grove Freeway,) the Orange County city offers fast, convenient access to Los Angeles. Surrounded by beaches such as Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Long Beach, Westminster offers lower prices in housing and hotels, though the inventory of hotels is rather small with only a few hotel properties in the city. Westminster is located conveniently close to Knotts Berry Farm and holds a strong shopping presence along Beach Boulevard with car dealers and stores. While many tourists know about Westminster because of its shopping opportunities, it also includes a bowling alley, billiards, indoor skating rink and many parks, churches serving different faiths and close proximity to beaches, theme parks and Los Angeles.
