Shell Beach Travel Information


Shell Beach is a region of the Central California coast between Pismo Beach and Avila Beach that features several of the Central Coast region's nicest hotels and resorts. One of our favorites is the Dolphin Bay Resort. With beach access directly from hotels, these hilltop properties offer ocean views from many rooms and suites. Shell Beach is accessed by sets of steps from the hillside hotels. The beach access is not wheelchair accessible, but is provided via sets of stairways built into the hills. The beaches you can access feature coves and areas of sand ideal for reading, sunbathing and swimming. In the rocks you'll find sandcrabs, starfish and other tiny sea creatures during the low tides. A children's playground is nearby and a gazebo overlooking the ocean that's popular for weddings. From the park with the overlook, kayakers and beachcombers can access a set of stairs to the beach where lightweight boats can be launched to explore the rocks and nearby ocean waters.
