Red Bluff Vacation Information

The cities that make up Shasta Cascade region of northern California are the inland cities that don't receive the cool temperatures of the northern coast hotels so expect to see plenty of air conditioning in the hotels in the summer, and heating in the winter. As the Central Valley and its hotels fade on road journeys north in the state, the great Shasta Cascade takes on a different look and feel. The biggest city in this area is Redding, expanding to around 100,000 people or so. The next largest city is Chico with over 60,000 folks. The reason you may choose this area to stay on vacation is the location. First, this is the best road trip to get to Oregon and Washington states along Interstate Highway 5. Many of the cities such as Redding run right along the highway. Travelers will stop in places such as Redding overnight, and that's just a fact of life. But for vacations, these cities and the region truly warrants a second look. In addition to access to California tallest redwood forests not far away, the region has some of the most beautiful, scenic drives anywhere. Pine forested hills along country roads provide stunning tours that end up at places such as Burney Falls National Natural Landmark at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park.
That's just one spot among dozens that offer historic volcano landmarks, a huge dam, houseboating vacations and adventures, and cool cave tours. The hotels in this area of California probably number around 100 or so. That's less than a single city in Orange County (Anaheim), or San Diego may offer. But this expansive part of California offers real nature (not the fake Matterhorn mountain you'll see in Disneyland), and for those who have never been, the Shasta Mountains alone are a real treat. As you drive along I-5, you keep asking yourself if it's a mirage when you think you see the fake Matterhorn. No, it's too big for that. You discover that the attraction in this area is the real outdoors, complete with waterfalls, mountains, lakes, fishing, swimming, boating and all the things that help people connect with nature. But the natural beauty in Shasta Cascade is so splendid that you won't be disappointed. Speaking from a city-fied perspective, our staff sits at desks indoors day and night, covering the world's natural wonders. It's hard to impress our editors, but Shasta Cascade does impress us with attractions such as Lassen Volcanic National Park. Be sure to visit when the park is open in the summer so you can take advantage of the complete drive through the park to see the many natural formations marked with signs, and ideal for photo ops.
