Orange, California Travel Guide




Orange, California was named for the orange groves that once were abundant in this fertile region approximately 15 miles from the beaches of Newport Beach.

Located at the base of a set of mountains, Orange is home to several regional hospitals, include Childrens Hospital of Orange. In addition to dining and services, Orange is known for its downtown, an historic town square (actually shaped like a circle), where antique stores abound, attraction Europeans and Asians who seek specialty collections of items such as records, automobile parts, and very American 50's collections.

Orange is also home to a cool, outdoor shopping center, The Block, where one of the nation's largest Van's Skate parks is located. This dining and entertainment shopping center is youth oriented, and offers a contemporary look and feel.

One of the best known institutions on the border of Orange (in Garden Grove) that draws folks from around the globe is Crystal Cathedral. The church complex includes an architectural wonder, a cathedral of glass panes that actually open to the sky during services sometimes. Tours of the museum are offered daily, and the public can attend Sunday services.

Next to the City of Orange is Anaheim's Angels Stadium less than half a mile distance, and Disneyland theme park only one to two miles away. When visiting Orange you'll find a handful of affordable chain hotels, or you may opt to stay in Anaheim where hotels are abundant.
