Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles County is a South Bay beach community near Los Angeles International Airport. Known for its unique pier with the domed shape building at the end, which houses an aquarium, sunsets over the Pacific Ocean often provide rich hues of orange or red, providing splendid photographs of this pier seen in silhouette at nightfall. Manhattan Beach, a tourist destination and beach oriented city close to Los Angeles, is known not just for its pier, but also its outdoor cafes where the sunshine and warm day provide nearly 365 opportunities per year to get out and bask in the Southern California lifestyle. Woody cars, bars, and incredibly gorgeous girls in their bikinis, are a few of the memorable moments and scenes you might enjoy as a tourist visiting. With one of the best selections of hotels in the region, visitors often stay in Manhattan Beach for the hotels, that continue to improve in quality and experience as they go upscale. Several such hotels include Shade, and The Belmar, a Larkspur Collection hotel.
Manhattan Beach features a cute and quaint downtown shopping area that runs mostly parallel to the ocean. It offers boutique and one-of-a-kind gifts, jewelry, and great services such as salons and spas. The dining is very casual and beach-relaxed so in most places, you can come in your shorts and shirt, not needing to dress up. One of Manhattan Beach's downfalls for a day trip is the lack of parking. You can spend some time driving and waiting for a spot, so there's no quick answer to the parking. But once you see the houses that line the beach from your vantage point on the pier, you'll understand that this residential, commercial and tourist attraction is an urban city. With a restaurant on the Manhattan Beach Pier, you can sit outside and snack a sandwich or meal while watching seagulls, people wander by and the surfers below.
Known for its surfing culture, Manhattan Beach is one of the original Southern California surfing meccas. At the base of the pier you may notice a statue honoring one of the local surfing greats, and at minimum, you'll see surfers riding the waves nearly every waking minute of every day. Tourists can rent surfboards and get a surfing lesson to learn how to mount the board and get up riding a wave by visiting one of the surf stores that line the base of the pier in the open plaza with the tall palm trees. In addition to many surfing competitions that are hosted at Manhattan all year long, you'll find some repeat annual events that attract large crowds such as AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) Pro Beach volleyball tournament held each summer.
Manhattan Beach is the perfect beach vacation spot for those seeking a variety of hotels close to the beach, Los Angeles attractions, theme parks and LAX. Manhattan Beach is one of the best choices for hotel accommodations among the cities Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Venice Beach.
