Avila Beach is a tucked away beach destination right out of a movie from another era. Three piers, kids playgrounds on the beach, dining, relaxing and beautiful scenery near wineries, spa and golf an hour's drive from Hearst Castle make this a great escape. Recently renovated or rebuilt from the ground up, the downtown area is brand-spanking new. Done tastefully to reflect the size and scale of the former village which was damaged by oil leakage, the new Arroyo Grande is comfortable, casual, and every bit as inviting (or more so) as the previous rendition. The town is rather small so don't expect to be partying into the night. Its quiet beaches and scenery are what attract tourists to come visit and stay. You can use your hotel room here as a home base for exploring, or simply spend a night or weekend to enjoy the ambiance of this San Luis Obispo County beach city on the Central California Coast.
