Arcadia, California Travel Guide

Arcadia features exciting attractions such as the Los Angeles Arboretum and Santa Anita Racetrack near great hotel options. It is also close to Pasadena (Rose Parade) and Huntington Library & Gardens. Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a 127-acre botanical garden and historical site jointly operated by the Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Los Voluntarios narrate tram tours as they drive you around the 2 mile road that encircles the Arboretum?s 127 acres. Call 626-821-3222 for the daily tram schedule. The Arboretum is located at 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA, 91007. Movies and television programs filmed there have included The Lobe Boat, Fantasy Island, Dallas, Hart to Hart, Remington Steele and over 100 film productions.

Arcadia?s other big attraction is its racetrack. Santa Anita Racetrack features a December through April race season. During that time it maintains a dress code of stylish attire (no jeans, tennis shoes, etc.) and has greeted celebrities throughout its years of existence. Co-founded and built by Hal Roach, stars in attendance through the years have included Bing Crosby, Spencer Tracy, Errol Flynn, Al Jolson, Frank Capra, Fred Astaire, Jack Benny, Walt Disney, Cecil B. de Mille, Whoopi Goldberg, Cybill Shepard, Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Joe Pesci, Don Johnson, Herb Alpert and Burt. These are but a handful who?ve watched the racing action close to home

Additional gardens and attractions only five miles away include Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. This world class attraction includes an art museum, estate home, library collection and research center and three themed gardens on the rambling, lush grounds. Be sure to check out Japanese Garden, and don't forget to stop for some tea or a healthy salad at the restaurant situated amongst the gardens.
