Alpine, California Travel Guide
Alpine is located east of San Diego near a popular Indian casino, Viejas. A drive trip outside San Diego with its beaches and amusements such as SeaWorld and San Diego yields scenic vistas, winding roads and countryside that's easy to fall in love with for its rugged beauty. Most drive this way to visit the casino, offering all the gambling you could possibly desire. Alpine itself is a relatively small community supported primarily by the casino and commerce it provides. Additional casinos that are easy drive trips outside San Diego include Temecula's four diamond Pechanga Casino and Pala Casino in Pala, California.

Approximately half an hour by car from San Diego and the blue Pacific, you'll find Alpine near Highway 8. With over 13,000 residents and a median household income of well over $60,000, this community includes an Alpine Chamber of Commerce serving the business community and residents with events and activities focused on the East County region of San Diego.

In addition to a supportive community and business environment, Alpine has great climate that initially attracted the native Kumeyaay Indians who lived in harmony with their surroundings till Catholic Missionaries arrived. Descendants of the Kumeyaay make up only a small percent of the community (around 1 to 2 percent) but are a vital connection to the historic roots of Alpine.

Once a stage stop supporting the Cuyamacas mountain gold mine, today's gold is the commerce within the town center, along Alpine Boulevard and Tavern Road. Several shopping complexes, Viejas Casino and the Viejas Outlet Center (nationally recognized for its design and landscaping),all lend to this picturesque foothill village with ranches and neatly-trimmed homes shaded and surrounded by sycamores, oak trees, eucalyptus and pepper trees. Alpine sits along the border of the Cleveland National Forest and is 20 minutes west of Cuyamaca State Park and the Laguna Mountains. Mild year-round weather in this city that sits approx. 2000 feet above sea level makes Alpine a desirable spot to stop overnight on your way to hiking, fishing, outdoor sports, casinos, wine tasting in Temecula and more.
