San Diego offers varying experiences such as beach vacations, urban vacations, theme park vacations, and casino escapes. San Diego is one of California's favorite vacation spots, and maybe the most popular for its hospitality. If people think San Diego, they think tourism. With more beach hotels than any other city in California, there's not only great beach vacation opportunities, but also affordable options in places that got their fame with hotel names. Hotel Circle is known as the region where an enclave of affordable chain hotels and some specialty properties are there just to serve travelers. Some rooms are about as cheap as you can find and others are not. The trade-off is you don't have the beach on site, but nearby Mission Bay is just minutes away, as is Old Town San Diego. That's a state historic park that includes a heritage hill with original houses and buildings from early San Diego. Among those unique homes and buildings is the Whaley House, that many are convinced has ghosts.

As for the hotels themselves, they range from luxury high rise view hotels to one-story budget properties practically under the freeway. We've tried the entire spectrum of San Diego hotels and certainly prefer the expensive hotels more, but on many occasions, we've opted for the $50 per night rooms, just for a quick, affordable weekend that won't break the bank. San Diego is easy to get to know, and it also feels like home. Sometimes the charm of the city makes you not want to leave. If you plan on visiting one place in California, San Diego is one of your best choices.
