Walnut Creek, California Travel Information
Walnut Creek is set amongst the oak trees and rolling hills east of Oakland and the San Francisco bay. Providing access to the city on BART public train, you can shop, dine, and explore the parks of this sunny East Bay city.

Living in the East Bay helped us appreciate Walnut Creek. In cities such as Lafayette and Orinda there is limited entertainment. As such, you'll be inclined to make Walnut Creek part of your drive and visit. There's something incredibly vibrant about this city that you can't quite put your finger on. To live there you need to be relatively successful in your job or career (unless you inhereted your home), and it's clearly a family environmnet--almost a bit old-fashioned in its focus on the family. with all this going on, the influence of San Francisco and the many residents who commute daily into the city offer a cosmopolitan influence in the social environment.

Walnut Creek would make a great East Bay overnighter on road trips to Redding, Sacramento, Oregon and all points north.

On a recent visit, I had to make a choice between Walnut Creek and Concord, and I chose a Hilton hotel room in Concord but could not resist driving through downtown Walnut Creek, a place I used to spend afternoons strolling through local shops when I wanted to get away from my somewhat isolated mountain top home in Lafayette.
