The ancient redwood trees are certainly stars in this region, dating over 2,000 years and standing taller than you can imagine. People from around the world come to visit and look at the huge trees. Migrating whales, elephant seals, and all sorts of wildlife can be seen along the coast and in the wooded forests around Sonoma County's Sea Ranch area. The hotels in the region aren't so plentiful. You may find yourself without a room in the summer months if you forget to check or plan ahead. So be forewarned! Do check availability before making the long trip.
Your best launch points for a vacation are offered by driving, flying into San Franciso Airport or surrounding airports, renting a car, and hitting the road.
