Stanton is only 3.1 miles big, but its 33,000-plus citizens think the world of their city, which is sandwiched somewhere between Buena Park, Westminster, Garden Grove, Cypress and Los Alamitos in Orange County, Calif. If its namesake Philip Stanton hadn't stepped in and fought for the dignity of this beach-close property just 10 miles from Sunset Beach, things could have turned out a lot different for the land that nearby neighbor Anaheim envisioned as a sewage facility. As the city grew and became a residential community that at one time had access to Los Angeles by train (red car), it suffered slightly by being between theme parks, beaches, and not really having an attraction of its own. Scrapping the slogan which included vacationland, city planners and residents began looking at their locale with a business sense, and began focusing on vision and pride. Today tourists will find several chain hotels along Beach Boulevard on the way to either the beach, Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland or Los Angeles attractions. Only five minutes by car from Knott's theme park, the hotels capture some of the tourists seeking vacations that are affordable.
