Central Valley

Central Valley hotels run the gamut, but in general, are mid-range properties in the two and three diamond quality (by old Triple A standards). What you'll see are pockets of new properties in growth areas such as Vacaville, Fairfield and other cities along the Interstate 5. Places in the Central Valley that once were sleepy towns and country stops like Bakersfield, are growing into the modern destinations that tourists not only find convenient, but maybe even go out of their way to visit. Nevertheless, the Central Valley generally doesn't offer those boutique resort & spa vacations just yet, as far as we could determine.

What you'll discover in the Central Valley is that you may drive an hour or so till you reach a city with hotels. Mostly small to mid-size cities stretch the length of Central Valley that runs north to south in the center of the 1000-mile long California probably about 450 miles from Orland to Tehachapi. What you'll find along the stretch of land with varying climates are some similarities in hot summers and cool winters. While ocean breezes keep the California Coast mild and lovely all year long, the winds and cool breezes off the ocean are usually blocked from reaching Central Valley. Then to the east of the valley are the Sierra Nevada mountains at high elevations, offering great vacations in forested areas such as Yosemite, Sequoia National Park and Mammoth Lakes. Central Valley often is the hotel link to these mountain destinations. Cities such as Three Rivers at the base of the Sequoia National Park is one such example of a spot you may want to book a hotel room when Wuksachi Lodge is full inside the park. So thinking of the Central Valley as a destination unto itself doesn't paint an accurate picture. What you may want to consider are the mountains and California Gold Country destinations within just minutes or hours of the Central Valley hotels.
