Monterey, California Travel Information
Monterey is one of California's most popular vacation spots and with good reason. Not only does it suit outdoorsmen, golfers and shoppers, it also appeals to artists with a strong arts community and many fine art galleries. In fact as small cities go, this region (which includes Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach) offers first class arts shopping which is why it attracts buyers from around the globe. The main reason people love Monterey, however, is its scenic location on the Monterey Bay.

With the world class Monterey Bay Aquarium along the seashore, families bring their children and measure time by their repeat visits to Monterey's jewel, its aquarium. In addition to the aquarium, you'll find the bay (a national marine sanctuary) is a treasure. Kayakers and surfers love this spot for its pristine beauty and those on shore love to photograph the setting, framed by the Monterey pine trees.

The hotels in Monterey are plentiful (except during special event weekends such as Monterey Jazz Festival or car racing) and there are many waterfront options. In some, you can hear the seals and sea lions barking in the bay. At another (Hyatt), you can overlook the public golf course from your balcony room or suite. Hotel options include golf resorts, bayfront and beach hotels and chains. Be sure to check out Cannery Row shops and dining for some fun.
