Santa Maria is home to the famous Santa Maria style BBQ with tri-tip steak cooked over an oak fire pit. Affordable hotels, great shopping, dining and a location a few minutes from the beach in the heart of Central Coast Wine Country make it the ideal stop between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Santa Maria has lots of parades, fairs, rodeos and is near the Guadalupe Dunes.

In addition to those activities, the Mid-State Fairgrounds hosts a variety of activities throughout the year. Waller Park offer Disc Golf and the public Santa Maria Golf Course invites golfers to play one of the many fabulous Central Coast courses that include nearby Blacklake.

More and more Santa Maria is becoming known for its winery tours. The wineries that are only a 15-to-20 minute drive out the scenic country roads that surround the heart of the city (100,000 population and just surpassed Santa Barbara), offer wine tasting daily. Some charge a fee and some don't, but all and in all, the drive alone is worth the trip for us city zombies who sit in traffic and have a pedal to the metal on a daily basis.

Visits to Santa Maria can include beaches that are only nine miles away. A drive out those same country roads can lead to Guadalupe beach, Oso Flaco Sand Dunes and a local favorite, Pismo Beach.

In addition to Santa Maria Mall, outlet shopping in Pismo Beach offers every name brand you might imagine. When you want to see hills, meadows, cows, blue skies and puffy clouds, your best bet is Santa Maria, located along Highway 101 on the California Central Coast.
