San Luis Obispo is the gateway to Central Coast Wine Country. Blessed with sunshine, cool ocean breezes and a great climate for farming, it is home to the Cal Poly University. While the Central Coast's biggest attraction is located 38 miles north at Hearst Castle, the pink Madonna Inn in "SLO" is well known for its outrageous color and themes. Closest, favorite beach hangout for students from the university is Avila Beach, a great option for beach vacations. Located 12 miles or 15 minutes distance, this San Luis Obispo County beach has not one but three piers and wharfs (one is closed to the public, however.)
