HB PIER - Huntington Beach Pier
is the Anchor to Huntington Beaches,
open
5 a.m.
- Midnight. Location: 315 Pacific Coast
Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA
HB Pier, the moniker for Huntington
Beach Pier, is one of the most useful piers for its
setting. Huntington Beach Pier is
the walkway above the ocean for watching
people sunbathing, swimming, surfing and
a spectacular vantage point to catch a
sunset. It is also ideal for
watching the summer games such as
volleyball and US Open of Surfing.
As an anchor for the beach and downtown
region of Huntington Beach, California,
the Huntington Beach Pier wasn't always
there. It has been beaten and damaged
irreparably several times in
its tough fight against nature.
Powerful waves have destroyed the
structure but it just keeps coming back,
stronger and better.
Among the events that surround this
visually-striking pier throughout the
year, visitors can enjoy Huck Finn Fishing
Derby;
Duck-A-Thon;
Interfaith Walk;
Light A
Light of Love Pier Lighting,
Annual Pier Swim,
Kite Flying Party,
Board Fest, and a host of fun
activities available to those just
seeking independent sports and
entertainment.
This most visited structure and best
place to take a photo in Huntington
Beach, tourists and local residents
enjoy its wide, cement decking, length
and vistas from Long Beach and San Pedro
to Newport Beach.
Sort of a city unto itself, the pier
includes three shops and one restaurant,
plus public restrooms. There are
lots of benches to sit on, a couple view
scopes, and usually some anglers
enjoying the free fishing that you can
enjoy at any pier in California.
Fishing on the pier is probably the most
popular activity next to walking. When
the tourists and locals are busy and not
out strolling, you'll still find the
fishermen out with their lawn chairs,
buckets and rods and reels, waiting for
a nibble. We've seen some
interesting fish snagged from the see at
the HB Pier. Stingrays, sharks, corbina,
perch and a variety of fish take the
bait daily and are reeled in. We've
asked the anglers about eating them and
the generally don't eat the fish on
Huntington Beach Pier or other piers in
the surrounding areas, especially in
certain years and seasons. They fish for
a the sport and enjoyment of being
outdoors. Fishing still ranks as the top
sport and Huntington Beach Pier is no
exception, especially because you don't
need a license.
The pier is an entertaining place to
watch people stroll and watch the
surfers and waves below. Never knowing
what you'll find, if you stay there too
long, you'll probably be recruited to
take a family photo for tourists passing
by. As the number one picture spot in
Huntington Beach, there's a picture
taken every couple seconds during the
summer and every minute during the
winter on the Huntington Beach Pier.
