HUNTINGTON HARBOUR
Huntington Beach Islands
Huntington
Harbour consists of a series of six islands
(Sunset Island in Sunset Beach, plus five HB
islands) and are but one of numerous
manmade islands along the California built to
create residential communities for ocean-close
living. The properties tend to offer more
expensive homes than surrounding non-waterfront
properties, and often come with boat docks
included.
Huntington
Beach's Huntington Harbour is home to the most
expensive residential properties in Huntington
Beach, in fact. With a few ranging around
$5 million give or take some, the houses that
once shockingly hit the $1 million mark are
coveted for the peaceful harbor lifestyle and
slightly tucked away location to the channel
exiting to the Pacific Ocean.
Huntington
Harbour is not gated for the most extent. One
community, Coral Cay, on Pacific Coast Highway,
is gated, as are several little community
associations for complexes of residential homes,
townhomes and condominiums. But the islands,
themselves, are open to the public and include
several community parks operated by the City of
Huntington Beach, several small beaches and the
Peters Landing Marina on the mainland
overlooking the islands.
Huntington Harbour is located in the northwest
region of Huntington Beach and is comprised of a
harbor, five manmade islands, several shopping
centers, numerous restaurants, hotels, Peter's
Landing Marina, Sunset Aquatic and Huntington
Harbour launch ramps, plus schools, apartments,
condominiums, homes and fabulous estates.
Bounded by the
cities of Westminster, Seal Beach and Sunset
Beach, Huntington Harbour includes a network of
navigable channels that access the Pacific Ocean
via Anaheim Bay. Five islands--Humboldt,
Davenport, Gilbert, Trinidad and Admiralty, plus
guard gated Coral Cay and Sunset Island in the
County of Orange community of Sunset Beach
include waterways and channels lined with
multi-million dollar homes and estates, private
docks and yachts. Shopping centers include
Huntington Harbour Mall, Marina Village Mall and
numerous smaller malls and shopping centers.
Located in the Ocean View School District,
schools include Harbour View Elementary School,
Marine View Middle School and Marina High
School.
For guests visiting Huntington Beach, Peter's
Landing Marina near Anderson Street and Pacific
Coast Highway and Huntington Harbour Marina next
to Huntington Harbour Yacht Club on Warner
Avenue near Pacific Coast Highway offer several
two-hour guest slips available on a first-come,
first-served basis for boaters. To access
Huntington Harbour via boat or yacht, you must
pass Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station and
Anaheim Bay National Wildlife Refuge in the
Anaheim Bay. Huntington Harbour is the closest
mainland location to Catalina Island (only 24
nautical miles) and is located between the
largest municipal pleasure cruise harbor in the
United States in Long Beach to the north and
Newport Beach to the south.
Huntington
Harbour Yacht Club is the largest yachting group
in Huntington Harbour. The close-knit community
of members own a beautiful clubhouse and enjoy
events such as boating and fishing contests and
excursions, educational trips for
under-privileged children and social functions
such as meetings, fund-raisers and dinners.
Huntington Beach, California -
Construction began on the Huntington Harbour
complex in 1963. Two islands, Admiralty and
Gilbert, were included in the first phase of
development. Today, Huntington Harbour contains
five manmade islands offering a wide variety of
home styles in both single family and
condominium units. Every year, during the
Christmas season, the Harbour residents present
a “Cruise of Lights” by dressing up their boats
with lights and decorations for a parade through
the Harbour. Residents and visitors attend the
nightly parades which have become a popular
attraction.
For tourists and
local residents wishing to enjoy the beauty of
Huntington Harbour, it is possible to rent Duffy
electric boats in Sunset Beach and kayaks from
Malibu Sports or Sunset Yacht and Boat Rentals
in Sunset Beach.
