Points Plaza. Tourists to Huntington Beach often chose the Best Western Regency
Inn on Beach Boulevard, one of two Best Western hotels in the city of Huntington
Beach. Why would they rather spend the night in a room on near a busy-trafficked
street than down at the beach a few miles where the other hotel is across the
street from the sand? Price is one answer. Availability is another.
During the peak summer season the beach
hotels routinely fill their rooms, and also garner higher prices during the
height of tourist season. But inland along Beach Boulevard and nearby youu'll
find more rooms available and prices that are generally lower.
As long as you have a rental car you're
really not missing out. But for someone walking, you'll probably have to take a
public bus to the beach to speed up your getting to the two mile distance to the
beach. While it can easily be done, there's lots of traffic and stop lights
along the way. It's not a walk that we'd enjoy (and we've made many of them in
places such as Burlington, Vermont where, like this area of Huntington Beach,
cars rule!
The good news is that on our last visit to
this hotel, it was clean and the decor was recently redone. It was not
upscale, but would be best described as affordable. The hotel on Beach
Boulevard is surrounded by dozens of chain restaurants, discount shops such as
Steinmart, Ann Taylor Loft, Baby Gap, Old Navy, etc., and car washes, car sales,
and movie theaters not far away.
Got dining? Beach Boulevard offers nearly
every type of cuisine ranging from Baci intimate Italian with a piano player on
weekends, to our newest favorite, Gyu Kaku, where
you prepare your own foods
over a smokeless grill at your table. It is really a treat when you order
specials that include kobe beef.
