Cove Beach Laguna Beach Beaches
Goff Cove Beach is one of the public
beaches youu'll enjoy on a visit to Montage Resort and Spa in Laguna Beach.
Goff Cove Beach is located between
Treasure Island and Christmas Cove beaches. It is best accessed by the stairs that
lead down from the Montage Resort, just at the beginning of the park. It can
also be reached by the ramp that leads down to Christmas Cove on the north
end of a lush, green park where picnic tables overlook the beautiful ocean
and beach. Middle Man Cove is south of Goff Cove and is another sandy
spot to enjoy.
For hotel guests who venture out, for diners like ourselves who dropped by
for a patio lunch at Montage before the Laguna first Thursday Art Walk or
for the public who enjoy the beach, it's a peaceful location. Not particular
large, visitors can still enjoy the usual ocean sports such as swimming, skin and scuba diving, tide pooling,
fishing and for the skilled kayakers, we actually noticed kayaks on the lawn
next to the beach. The beach is relatively protected from
most surf and results in some great snorkeling and scuba diving
opportunities.
Goff Cove beach features a rock bottom and small shorebreak, not conducive
to sizeable surfing waves. Be careful when swimming in the
cove because of the rocks and currents that can form. Whether wading, swimming
or snorkeling, be cautious of the rocks that are both visible and located in
the ocean where you cannot see them well. Another danger is Goff Island at
the southwest end of the beach. Though tempting to many tourists and
especially youth, it's not safe to climb and lifeguards will usually
recommend that you not try it.
Listed as a marine sanctuary, local
rules prohibit taking shells and rocks or artifacts from the beach. One
exception is during beach clean up when debris is collected and removed by
volunteers.
