Trail is a rustic, countryside drive that's full of charm and backwoods
exploration. Signage allows you to follow the wine trail beginning in
Los Olivos or in Santa Maria.
Foxen Winery produces over 12,000 cases of wine a year, including Pinot
Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.
Directions: Take the 101N to Alisos Canyon Road, then turn left onto Foxen
Canyon Road. The winery is about 4 miles down on the right. It is easy to
miss so be sure to look for the white house with a picket fence on the left
and visit the tasting room on the right.
The tasting room itself is a rustic,
barn-like setting. Not very large, it still enjoys healthy foot
traffic from explorers who venture through the beautiful countryside that
Santa Maria Valley is known for. Rolling hills, farm animals in the fields
and crops grown throughout the year are earmarks of this lush valley that
produces some top Chardonnays. The unique combination of cold ocean
currents from Alaska and the opening of the valley between sets of
mountains, allow the cool ocean air to flow inland to the fields. Combined
with year-round sun and only a few day of frost per year make this an
extremely popular wine region which grows by leaps and bounds almost daily.
