Yosemite Strawberry Music
Festival
May 27-31 2010 & Fall Sept 2-6, 2010
Yosemite--While
other cities celebrate Memorial Weekend with
strawberry festivals that include carnival
rides, parades, and tons of strawberry
shortcake, the mountain folks have a whole
different game plan. The Strawberry Music
Festival is a fiesta of live music from a
variety of bands ranging from bluegrass and
country to jazz and blues. And it takes place
two times each year, over the Memorial and Labor
Day weekends. The festival features a wide range
of musical acts representing many different
musical genres, complete with camping options, a
cool lake, and the pristine forests next to
Yosemite National Park. Life was never so
beautiful.
Founded around 1982
in Strawberry, California, the festival was
known as the Strawberry Bluegrass Festival. It's
a hidden gem that has its roots in music,
community, and a love of nature. Combining those
elements together makes this an event
recommended for city dwellers, only if they can
leave their comfort zone. Cell phones don't work
in the area and there's usually a long line to
use the pay phone. That's roughing it!
The festival occurs at Camp Mather, Yosemite,
California which consists of 350 acres of
mountains, meadows, pine forest and picturesque
Birch Lake nestled on the brink of Hetch Hetchy,
the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. Located on
Evergreen Road just seven miles off Highway 120
near the north entrance to Yosemite National
Park, Camp Mather offers the wonders of its
Yosemite location to festival goers. The
festival takes place at Camp Mather, near
Yosemite National Park... Mather is located on
Evergreen Road seven miles north of Highway 120
near the north entrance to Yosemite. Evergreen
Road is also the access road for Hetch Hetchy
Reservoir.
Cost: $65 for a one
day pass is what the prices started at in 2010,
and camping goes up to more. Many buy a 4-day
pass and make it an entire weekend of camping.
