Vacaville
Festival of Trees Annual Christmas Event
December
1-3, 2010 (subject to change)
Vacaville, California--Vacaville Christmas Trees
Celebrate the season with a fund-raiser where you can purchase a
pre-decorated holiday tree complete with a theme, and help the
needy.
Some of us don't
know our tinsel from our toes. We think that decorating a tree
for the holidays involves yanking out a box of dusty ornaments
with flaked off paint, letting the family go at it and see what
turns out. Usually only one side of a tree gets the glitter,
while the other half is totally plain. And what also may occur
in this effort is a tree that's unstable, weighted down with
heavy adornments that in our house, has even caused the tree to
topple to the ground. Now that's a real mess you didn't
anticipate! Oh, rats.
Vacaville is so clever! They have people who actually
thought about this tree-decorating dilemma, and they put their
best talents to the test of coming up with boutique-style
Christmas trees that look SOOOO nice. Not all of us live in that
region, but, by golly, we could have a lovely tree shipped to
some needy family after bidding on it in this fund-raiser.
Wouldn't that be one of the finest gifts you could give?
Or if you plan to
stay, what a hoot it would be to have the tree delivered to your
hotel room for the holidayy! If your Vacaville hotel doesn't go
for that idea, then why not just attend the tree auction and
check out the beautiful handiwork that's been created with
heart. There's no better way to ring in the holiday and launch a
new year that to take in the best that this loving community has
to offer. Be sure to stop by Vacaville during your California
journeys and road trips. We did that, and fell in love with
their home-town spirit, evidenced in the Vacaville Festival of
Trees annual event.
What started out as a labor
of love years ago has become a special holiday tradition in the
Vacaville community, one that represents families, fun, giving,
and the spirit of the holidays. Churches, businesses,
organizations and individuals are the foundation of the Festival
of Trees. It is people working together for a common cause,
which has made it successful. The Festival relies completely on
the efforts of local volunteers, and would not be possible
without their involvement. This much anticipated event is the
primary fundraiser for Opportunity House, Vacaville’s homeless
shelter.
Each year the Festival of Trees presents a forest of beautiful
Christmas trees, which will be auctioned off, to the highest
bidder. This year will feature 100 elaborately decorated trees,
each with its own unique theme.
At the end of the Festival, the coveted “People’s Choice” award
is presented to the business, individual or organization whose
tree is voted overall favorite. Previous winners have included in the large
tree category "Carousel Christmas" sponsored by NorthBay
Neonatology Association and decorated by the young women of the
Vacaville stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. The winner in the mini-tree category was "The Bee Movie"
Sponsored & Decorated bythe Optimist Club of Vacaville.
2008 will mark the 18th year that Festival of Trees has been the
primary fundraiser for Opportunity House. In 2007, we raised a
record breaking $137,000. If you would like to be a sponsor or
volunteer in this community event, please contact us at our
website which you will find listed on this page.
